Unsettling Canadian Art History is a new edited book (McGill-Queen’s University Press, Spring 2022) stemming from a 5-year collaborative SSHRC Insight Grant entitled “Unsettling the Settler Artist, Reframing the Canadian Visual Arts” (Erin Morton, PI). The edited book brings together fifteen scholars of art and culture to address visual and material culture histories of settler colonialism, enslavement, and racialized diasporas in the contested white settler state of Canada. The chapters in this book offer new perspectives for decolonial and anti-racist scholarship on art, archives, and creative practice by rethinking histories of Canadian colonialisms from distinct but relational Black, Indigenous, racialized diasporic, feminist, queer, trans, and Two-Spirit perspectives. This book is addressed to a scholarly and professional audience, which includes academics, artists, curators, museum directors, and students.
